The opportunity
Our team is evolving to meet the needs of our growing business. We are seeking an experienced and multiskilled Electrical, Instrumentation, and Controls Technician who is proficient in troubleshooting, maintaining, and operating liquids pump station control systems and other related facilities.
We are looking for a self-starter and a team player, capable of working with minimal supervision, who possesses excellent interpersonal, problem solving, diagnostic, and communication skills.
The is a Fly In/Fly Out position located in Fort McMurray. Flights are provided from Calgary or Edmonton. The current schedule is 14 days on/14 days off.
What you’ll do
- Ensure the safe and reliable completion of work actives including, supervision of contractors, issuing Permits, perform lockout / tag out, and safe work authorizations
- Support multi-skilled maintenance requirements in the completion of pipeline and control system tasks
- Plan, coordinate, and perform maintenance, to include routine corrective and preventative maintenance, equipment and system improvements, and major maintenance projects
- Troubleshoot, operate, and maintain pumps, valves and operators, and other associated electrical, instrumentation, and Controls equipment used in liquids facilities
- Support on-call rotation, emergency response and after hour requirements of the Grand Rapids Pipeline System
- Monitor contractor activity while on-site
- Complete work orders, enter data into job plans, create new work orders, etc. in SAP
Minimum Qualifications
- A fully certified Journeyperson Electrician or equivalent is required
- Minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience; previous experience with piping, motor operated valves and operations would be an asset
- An alternate combination of education and experience may be considered
- Additional industry related certification and/or related trades experience
- Strong electrical, mechanical, instrumentation, and process aptitude
- Computerized Maintenance Management System and SAP experience
- Continuous improvement mindset in applying your knowledge to efficiently perform duties as assigned
- Action oriented with a focus on completing tasks and assignments in a safe and environmentally responsible manner, ensuring proper handling and disposition of hazardous waste
- Experience with the interpretation of technical reference documents
Preferred Qualifications
- Highly motivated and well-organized in the execution of responsibilities
- Previous experience in a related industry
- Able to act and work independently and able to effectively work in a team environment that includes shared responsibilities in support of team and company objectives
- Thorough understanding of test equipment used to maintain control systems
- A willingness to work in all areas required by the team
- Excellent critical thinking and analytical skills when encountering issues and able to use these skills when troubleshooting
- Competent using equipment applicable to the maintenance of control and measurement systems
- Utilize computers, smart phone, and e-mail for internal and external communication, record keeping, on-line reporting, material and supply ordering and filing of various forms
Additional Role Responsibilities
- Have and maintain a valid driver’s license and safe driving record
- Successfully complete a pre-employment medical screening, including drug and alcohol testing
- Be subject to hazardous conditions including adverse weather, heights, lifting, and cramped conditions
- Be available for overtime, extended work hours, and call-outs as needed
- Travel to other company locations for temporary assignments, meetings or training which would involve some overnight stays away from home
- This position is overtime eligible, part of an on-call rotation and may be requested to provide support during emergency response incidents or extended days due to operational needs, as required.
