Description

The Terminal Operator is responsible for overseeing the safe and accurate movement of petroleum products via a pipeline gathering system. The terminal operator will monitor conditions of the pipeline gathering system including product quality ensuring compliance with all safety and government regulations.  This individual will ensure that the pipeline system and tank farm blending operation is operating at a high level of efficiency. This is a dual-purpose role which includes monitoring a pipeline system via SCADA equipment, working outside and inside performing basic product quality tests.

 Essential Duties & Responsibilities

The responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Operate and continuously monitor pipeline gathering system via SCADA control system with limited supervision
  • Monitor the safe offloading of trucks and assist if needed
  • Ensure accurate on spec blending of multiple products
  • Execute daily pumping schedules and blending requirements
  • Recognize / Respond appropriately to abnormal operating conditions and emergency situations
  • Monitor leak detection and respond to alarm conditions
  • Log all pertinent day to day data
  • Communicate information exchange at end of shift
  • Perform daily, weekly, and monthly plant and equipment checks
  • Conduct visitor and contractor orientations
  • Perform basic sampling and lab tests
  • Day to day site activities including minor maintenance activities and housekeeping
  • Complete safe work permits, and job hazard assessments as required
  • Participate in Emergency Management Plan (EMP)training exercises
  • Participate as required in Operating manual updates
  • Troubleshoot mechanical problems
  • Supervise and evaluate contractor performance
  • Participate on incident reporting and resolution

Qualifications/Competencies

The individual in this role will have: 

  • Understanding of SCADA systems and hardware.
  • A minimum of 3 years oilfield experience
  • A High School Diploma, General Education Diploma or equivalent
  • A valid and acceptable Driver’s license and successful completion of Pre-employment testing
  • Current and valid safety tickets, including H2S Alive, First Aid, Confined Space Entry, WHIMS and TDG, Ground Disturbance, ICS.
  • Must be able to document their work and ensure consistent communication with the Facility Manager and other key stakeholders clearly and accurately
  • Must be able to multi-task and demonstrate good decision-making skills
  • Proven ability to work well under limited amount of supervision
  • Must demonstrate excellent customer service skills and safe work practices
  • Must demonstrate strong teaching methods regarding all processes in the plant
  • Must demonstrate a high level of integrity and accountability to Lead Operator / Facility Manager
  • Demonstrate a commitment to safe and efficient operations of the pipeline system

Schedule/Working Conditions

  • This position works a standard 40 hour work week from 8am-5pm, Monday to Friday.
  • The plant is a sour operating facility and operators must have the proper training to operate in a sour environment. The Operator is expected to be wearing all PPE full time and working with the customers to unload trucks and operate the plant equipment. The Operator will spend a significant amount of time outside and as such will be exposed to the elements. This position will also work inside the process buildings, with minimal time spent in the plant office.
